History
1939
Foundation of Portella
Activities for the Naval Industry and General Hardware Supply.
1964
Fire
In February of this year, a fire completely destroyed the company’s facilities, machinery, and inventory. With the support of suppliers and customers, Portella recovered from the losses and relocated its operations to Riachuelo Street in Rio de Janeiro.
1973
Significant Growth
In the 1970s, the Brazilian economy grew significantly
due to the naval and oil industries. Portella, specializing
in steel cables, expanded its operations to meet the
growing demand and moved to a strategic location in
Rio de Janeiro, near Av. Brasil, to better serve its customers.
1980
Company Expansion
The company returns to its original name,
Portella Supplier for Industry and Navigation
Ltda, and expands its operations by acquiring
more machines and increasing the production of steel cable slings, distinguishing itself in the
mining industry. It also begins offering
certification services, conducting tensile and
rupture tests on cables, chains, and other
equipment, with machines capable of up to
700 tons of nominal tensile capacity.
1990
International Partnerships
In the 1990s, with economic liberalization, Portella
developed international partnerships and began importing
steel cables and mooring chains to meet the growing
demand of the oil industry, especially in the Campos Basin.
2008
Expansion of Activities
Establishment of Portella Wire Ropes and
Business Services Ltda aimed at expanding
the company’s activities in response to the new
opportunities created by investments in the
pre-salt area.

The third photograph, from left to right, in 1979, features Paulo Gonçalves Portella Jr., Aníbal de Carvalho Silva, Francisco Gonçalves Portella, and Paulo Gonçalves Portella, the directors of S/A Portella. It is important to highlight that the founder of the company was Francisco Gonçalves Portella.
